Biography

Barb Kostohryz working on a projectAlthough Barb has been drawing since she was a child, her talent lay dormant until later in life. After graduating from Ohio University, Barb embarked on a teaching career until she and her husband, Tom, started their family. While raising her children, she found time to sharpen her art skills by studying with several master teachers such as Robert Bateman, Zolten Szabo, Daniel Green, Albert Handell and Dorothy Horne Decker.

Barb quickly developed a unique talent to capture a realistic likeness in her portraits. Her artwork has won numerous regional awards and she has had several of her pieces of her work published. Today her work is featured in many corporate and private collections. In 2005, Barb’s painting titled “Last Moments” was selected for the National Parks Arts for the Parks Top 100 Show. This collection traveled to various national parks and cities throughout the west. In 2008, she was in the top 50 Paint the Parks National Show.

In addition to art career, Barb has found time to ride her bike across America to raise awareness for organ donations, bike through South Africa to promote blood donations, walk across England to raise money for sexual assault victims, and has spent several weeks volunteering in an orphanage in Haiti. Many of her recent subjects in her paintings have come from her adventurous trips.

Barb still lives in the countryside outside of Athens, Ohio with her husband Tom and their two dogs Molly and Maggy.
